This course aims to present the basic structure and characteristics of the Graphic Arts History and Technology, which concerns the integrated production -in the broad sense- mainly of printed matter, but also of electronic media in visual communication. It presents the content of the discipline, its specific characteristics and its structure, as a science and technology, as design and production, as industry and business, but also as an art and tradition, in conjunction with continuous technological developments.
In particular, the term 'graphic arts', complementary and other definitions used, the constitution and types of business and the main areas of print production are presented and analysed. The main technologies and processes involved in the design, management and production of printed matter are also presented.
